| Notes: | May 2025 - Richard McDonald - Lionel has two stones. He has a traditional headstone with he and his wife Murial listed. He has a second stone at his feet which is very interesting. We think it's the only one in the cemetery. The stone was provided by The Last Post Fund. Started in 1909, the fund provides benefits to veterans and their families to ensure that they have access to a proper funeral, burial, and grave marker. At the moment, they work on behalf of Veterans Affairs Canada. Shortly after Lionel's death, someone in his immediate family ordered a stone for his grave from The Last Post Fund. Family legend has it that the stone mason didn't know where it was supposed to go and left it on the steps of the chapel. Eventually, the family moved it to it's current location. As far as we know, it's the only Last Post Fund provided stone in the cemetery. |
